too little, too late.

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
Karaoke, tried sushi, traveled to the Central time zone, switched planes, put off liking a really cute boy until after we had a decent conversation, kissed a girl, made less money than I had the year prior, went to my high school reunion, DJed something other than my own party, cooked Christmas dinner for the family.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Surely I resolved to stop having pointless unrequited love affairs. This I resolve every year and never come through. I likely resolved to be less fat, which I will do again this year as I handily gained back a good chunk of the 20 lbs. I did actually lose.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not terribly close, no.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada (Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal) and the United States (Minneapolis, Boston, Austin, Atlantic City).

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
Money, cash, hoes. Maybe a cute boyfriend too. Oh! And a full-time job.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
September 18. The Darkness' NYC debut.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Managing to live on part-time money that came in sporadically.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Failed to pay back my little brother in full before years' end for money borrowed for rent.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing serious.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Cute Boyfriend, my MiniDisc player. Which I quickly broke.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lady Kim. She knows why.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Payroll.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The Darkness.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
"Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman"

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? sadder
ii. thinner or fatter? ever-so-slightly thinner. I think.
iii. richer or poorer? poorer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Talking to strangers. Being brave. Making out. Working.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Drinking. Whining. Hiding. Watching daytime television.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
With my family, cooking up a storm.

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
No, but it's fun to pretend.

23. How many one-night stands?
Zero.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Starting Over. The Joe Schmoe Show. Subterranean UK. Rich Girls. Curb Your Enthusiasm reruns. Linda Green. Queer Eye. Queer as Folk. Dr. Phil. Arrested Development. I watch a lot of TV.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I'm not much of a hater.

26. What was the best book you read?
Maybe The Lovely Bones?

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Darkness.

28. What did you want and get?
A digital camera.

29. What did you want and not get?
An eMac.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Lost in Translation or Big Fish. I haven't decided yet.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had good dinner with close friends and went out for a drink where I was serenaded by the bar's patrons. I was 28. And I had a big party two days later.

32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More money would have made a huge difference in so many ways.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Work-at-home chic. It was rare that I changed out of Old Navy yoga pants and threadbare t-shirts.

34. What kept you sane?
Cooking. Friends. Cooking for friends.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jim Shearer. Gale Harold. Kyan. Jake Gyllenhaal. Wesley Clark.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
It probably should be the war, but it's really the domestic gay rulings.

37. Who did you miss?
Kim, mostly.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Frankie Poullain? I only met a couple of non-famous people and the jury is still out on them.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
"It's not as if they're paying you. It's not as if it's fun -- at least not anymore. When your legs are black and blue, it's time to take a break."

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Um, that one? Also, "The road is long and the lights are bright / Just 'cos you've lived here all your life doesn't make it alright / And the golden mile is paved with shite / Don't mind telling you I'm sick of walking up and down it every single fucking night" -- The Darkness' "Stuck in a Rut"
